Baoshankou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Northeast peninsula of Shandong. The Baoshankou Fm was named by the Jiaodong Team of Regional Geological Survey of Changchun College of Geology in 1960 and first quoted in 1962 (in the book, Precambrian in China, edited by the China Committee of Stratigraphy). The typical section is situated at Baoshankou in Qixia County, Shandong Province. Lower most formation of the Penglai Gr.

Lithology and Thickness
The Baoshankou Fm is dominated by gray, dark-gray, blue-gray slate and variegated marble, which is subdivided into three members. Lower member is composed of over 20 m of purple slate, occasionally bearing tens centimeters of basal conglomerate. Middle member is variegated marble (dominated by light gray, pink, greenish gray and dark green colors). Upper member is dominantly composed of blue-gray to dark-gray slate, of which the lower part is intercalated with calcareous slate and the upper part is dominated by carbonaceous slate. The Baoshankou Fm contains manganese and phosphorus ores. Total thickness from 800 to 1200 m
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The basal part is composed of purple slate (or a bed of some ten-centimeter of conglomerate) unconformably resting on the underlying Jiaodong Gr
Upper contact
The top is composed of blue-gray slate conformably underlying the white thick-bedded quartzite of the overlying Fuzikuang Fm
Regional extent
Northeast peninsula of Shandong. It was reported to be distributed in Zhailiyujia, Houjiakou and Baoshankou of Qixia County, in Donglongkuang of Fushan County, and in the west of Daxindian of Penglai County, Shangdong Province.

It yields microplants: Trachysphaeridium simplex; Leiopsophosphaera densa, L. aperta, L. minor, L. sp., etc.
